Choosing the right system

There are a lot of air conditioning units out there, and the differences are not always obvious from a brochure. Some are whisper quiet, some are better at heating in a cold snap, some look sleeker on the wall and some come with smart apps and air purifying filters.

We supply, fit and service systems from Daikin, Fujitsu and Mitsubishi, three of the most respected names in air conditioning. Between them they cover everything from compact bedroom units to whole house systems.

We take the guesswork out of it. We look at the room, ask how you plan to use it and recommend a system that fits, explaining the options in plain English so you can decide with confidence. You are never pushed towards something bigger or pricier than you need.

Outdoor unit, indoor unit and remote control of a split air conditioning system

The main types of system

Wall mounted - the most popular choice for bedrooms, lounges and home offices
Floor standing - sits low like a radiator, great for conservatories and loft rooms
Multi split - several rooms from one outdoor unit, each with its own control
Ducted and concealed - hidden in the ceiling with only a slim grille on show

Why size matters

A unit that is too small runs flat out and still struggles on the hottest days. One that is too big switches on and off constantly, which wastes energy and makes the room feel less comfortable. We work out the right output from the size of the room, the windows, which way it faces and how well it is insulated.

Supplied and fitted together: split air conditioning has to be installed by an F-Gas certified engineer, so we supply and fit your system as one job. One company is responsible for the lot, and your manufacturer warranty starts from the day it is commissioned.

Features worth knowing about

Modern systems heat as well as cool, and many give out several times more heat than the electricity they use. Look out for quiet indoor units for bedrooms, filters that trap pollen and dust, and Wi-Fi control so you can switch it on from your phone. We will tell you which features are worth paying for in your home and which are not.

Supply questions

Which brands do you supply?

We supply Daikin, Fujitsu and Mitsubishi systems. All three make quiet, efficient and reliable units, and we will recommend the model that best suits your home and budget at the survey.

Can I buy a unit and fit it myself?

Split air conditioning contains refrigerant gas, so by law it must be installed and commissioned by an F-Gas certified engineer. That is why we supply and fit together.

Will it heat my home in winter?

Yes. The systems we supply are heat pumps that work in reverse in winter, drawing warmth from the outdoor air even on cold days.

What warranty do I get?

Every system comes with the manufacturer warranty, and the length depends on the make. We tell you exactly what is covered with your quote, and a yearly service helps keep it valid.
